The Work

Stanwick Dunham is not a traditional design-build firm, but creative problem solving has always been part of the work. SD Creative is where that side of the business lives, translating ideas into custom pieces that are designed in-house and built in the shop.

Our Story

From Concept to Craft

Some ideas live in the plans. Others are discovered along the way. SD Creative exists to design and build the pieces that make a home feel truly custom.

Design It

Not every meaningful detail begins on a blueprint. Sometimes the most memorable pieces are the ones that emerge during the process. SD Creative brings those opportunities to life through in-house design for custom cabinetry, furniture, fireplaces, millwork, and one-of-a-kind details made specifically for the home. This reflects the current page’s emphasis on in-house design support and custom pieces that “fill the gaps” in the broader project.

Build It

Once the idea is right, it moves into the shop. This is where concept becomes material, proportion, and craftsmanship. Stanwick Dunham’s woodshop is described as a creative outlet and a fully equipped workspace that supports its homes with custom millwork, cabinetry, furniture, and unique built pieces that would not happen any other way.

What We Make

From cabinetry and built-ins to furniture and one-off details, each piece is designed to feel integrated, intentional, and built to last.

A Collaborative Way to Make Something Custom

Each piece begins with a need, an idea, or an opportunity, then moves through design, craftsmanship, and installation with care.

1

Identify the Opportunity
Sometimes the need is clear from the start. Other times, it reveals itself during the process. The first step is recognizing where a custom piece can add function, character, or a more tailored solution.z

2

Design the Piece
Once the opportunity is clear, the design takes shape through proportion, material, purpose, and detail. Every piece is considered in the context of the home so it feels integrated, intentional, and specific to the space.

3

Build and Install
From there, the work moves into the shop, where the design becomes material, craftsmanship, and finish. The final piece is then brought back into the home as a seamless part of the larger project.

Built with purpose

Beyond client work, the shop also creates pieces that support local nonprofits and community causes.
